ONS Performance was the first and remains the only sports nutrition company to solely research, develop and design nutritional products that meet the unique nutritional guidelines set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)* in association with The Committee On Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports Standards and the Center for Drug Free Sport (CDFS).

According to the NCAA Bylaw 16.5.2.2 for nutritional supplements, Critical Reload is identified as a calorie-replacement drink. Although Critical Reload does contain protein, it is classified as a non-muscle-building supplement because it meets all the following conditions set forth in 16.5.2.2.

Critical Reload is included in one of the four permissible categories (i.e., vitamins & minerals, energy bars, calorie-replacement drink, electrolyte-replacement drink) set for in the NCAA Bylaw 16.5.2.2.

  • Critical Reload does not contain additional ingredients that are designed to assist in the muscle-buidling process.
  • Critical Reload does not contain more than 30-percent of total calories from protein. Critical Reload's percentage of protein equals 29-percent (see calculation example below).
  • Critical Reload contains 19 grams of protein with a caloric value of 254.
  • Multiply 19 grams by 4-calories (1 gram of protein equals 4 calories) = 76 calories from protein. Now, take 76 calories and divided it by Critical Reload's caloric value of 254. That equals 0.29.

Based on legislation requirements, Critical Reload adheres to all NCAA Bylaw 16.5.2.2 classifications thus, making it permissible for colleges and universities to purchase and distribute to their student-athletes.
